Let me give you a bit of background...

Every year I whip up big batches of Christmas cookies to have at home and to give out to friends and family, just as I'm sure you do.

Well, after years of making cookies, the problem I started having was that all the "new" recipes I tried started to look and sound (and taste!) the same. She even owned her own bakery that specialized in cookies. She sold her cookies to coffee shops and businesses all over the city and was in huge demand.

Naturally, I thought she must have the best Christmas cookie recipe to share with me, right? Wrong! Believe it or not, she had actually been having the same dilemma herself... and she is the 'cookie master'.

We both knew that there were LOTS of Christmas cookie recipes out there, but most of them were kind of, well, boring! They used all kinds of obscure ingredients and they were a ton of work to make! I mean really, how badly do you want to sit around and unwrap 243 little caramels??? Please! Besides, aren't you as tired as I am of thumbprint cookies and plain old sugar cookies? Blech.

As it turns out, I've wasted a lot of good ingredients (and money!) making huge batches of cookies that nobody ate. In fact, I think I still have some in my freezer now...

So, here's the deal, I asked Julie to create the ultimate Christmas cookie recipe for me. The catch? I told her that I ONLY wanted her to create the recipe for me if it was:

-- adaptable (I wanted to be able to change it around so I could make one recipe into many different cookies -- remember what I said at the beginning about drop cookies, shaped cookies, and all the different flavors?)...

Well, even with all those criteria, I managed to convince her to create a recipe for me, and you know what??

The mission was successful, and I now make these cookies at home every Christmas. My new problem is that everyone I know is hounding me for the recipe! It seems now that every time I get invited to a Christmas party, I'm automatically "volunteered" to bring the cookies.
